May Highlights

National Photo Month

May is National Photo Month! Taking selfies with a favorite book or project (at the beginning of the year and the end, too) helps students reflect on their growth and learning. Here’s the Spanish version of “Selfie” by Lorie Ann Grover; find the original English version in The Poetry Friday Anthology for Celebrations!

National Physical Fitness & Sports Month

The end of the school year is a “battle of the wiggles”—but luckily, May is National Physical Fitness & Sports Month, a perfect excuse for getting up and moving around. “Let’s GO” have a 30-second indoor recess once a day with this poem by Merry Bradshaw!

Children’s Book Week

2019 marks the 100th Anniversary of Children’s Book Week—with celebrations taking place both in May and in November (4-10). Here’s a poem to celebrate the power of books, “Treasure Hunt” by Sandy Asher (in Spanish). You’ll find a ton of fun resources at Every Child a Reader!
